About

An engineering team that knows where AI fits — and where it doesn’t.

Jamain is a small Australian software team. We help others get real value from AI, and we build our own AI products — which is how we know the difference between what AI can genuinely do and what it’s merely claimed to do.

How we think

Software first. AI where it earns its place.

We don’t wrap a chatbot around a problem and call it a product. We use AI for what it’s genuinely good at — understanding a plain-language question, reading through documents, turning speech into a response — while keeping the core deterministic, explainable and grounded in real evidence. That discipline is the difference between an AI feature that demos well and one that can be trusted in daily use.

Grounded, not guessing

We build AI whose answers trace back to evidence you can open and check, rather than asking you to trust a model on faith.

Honest about limits

We’ll tell you where AI won’t help before you spend money finding out the hard way.

Careful with data

AI can run against a private endpoint, so sensitive material never has to leave infrastructure you control.

Experience that predates the hype

We’ve been building with machine-learning models since the early PyTorch days — well before the current wave — on top of decades of contract engineering and postgraduate depth. The judgment that comes with that is the whole point.

We build what we recommend

Smart Library and Storyteller aren’t demos — they’re shipped products using AI in production, with the cost, safety and reliability work that real use demands.

Responsible by default

Storyteller is built for young children, with no accounts and nothing about the child kept. Using AI well where the stakes are highest is a standard we hold across everything we do.

How we work

Small teams, remote-first, genuinely collaborative.

Our best work happens with small, motivated teams who want to explore what’s possible rather than hand over a rigid spec. We’re remote-first — a face-to-face intro and setup is welcome, and the work itself happens remotely, so you get senior attention without the overhead of an on-site engagement.

Australian-based

Working with teams here and further afield, remotely.

Senior by default

You work directly with the people doing the engineering, not a layer in front of them.

Plain language

Technical decisions explained in terms of what they mean for you, not jargon for its own sake.
